Dental implants – ‘natural’ tooth replacement

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009

Missing teeth can compromise your health, eating habits, cause problems with your speech and change your facial structure. When a tooth is lost the bone in that area deteriorates and when all of the teeth are missing the facial structures collapse as the jaw deteriorates over time.

Dental implants form a fixed foundation for permanent replacement teeth that look and function like natural teeth. People who have lost all of their teeth are spared the many problems associated with traditional dentures and for those who have lost one tooth or more the adjacent teeth do not need to be ground down for bridgework or have clasps on them to anchor partial dentures.

If you would like to explore the possibility of dental implants please call us on 024 76454350 and book a complimentary consultation with Dr Jag Shergill.

chewing sugar free gum

Monday, March 16th, 2009

Many patients ask about how to prevent decay and cavities. It’s very important to prevent too much sugar or acidity in your diet ie make sure you dont eat too many sweets, cakes or drink too many fizzy drinks. Everything in moderation is ok, but in addition, the simple act of chewing sugar free gum after food helps  reduce the damaging effects of sugar or acidity in the diet. We regularly give out free  samples of sugar free gum to our patients to help develop good habits of dental care.

Replacing old crowns and ‘tired’ fillings

Friday, March 13th, 2009

We pride ourselves on improving the appearance and function of patient smiles, and not just with the natural teeth.

Over the last few weeks we have treated more than a dozen patients replacing their old crowns and fillings which were spoiling their smiles.

One particular patient whose upper crowns, that were placed many years ago, were now not fitting correctly and had developed unsightly black lines (margins) underneath.

We replaced the crowns with two beautiful pure porcelain natural looking cosmetic crowns which, along with being stronger than the old ones, now look completely natural.

In addition we also placed two durable porcelain veneers to complete the beautiful smile.

If you have old crowns or fillings at the front of your mouth, or gold crowns and silver fillings at the back, then feel free to contact the practice on 024 76454350 for a free consultation with Dr Jag Shergill.  He will listen to your concerns and provide you with options to suit your timescale and budget.

Relax at the Dentist?

Thursday, March 12th, 2009

Today I took a phone call froma lady who wanted  to improve her smile, apart from her dental requirements she advised that she was truly terrified of the dentist and wanted to know how we would approach her treatment.  This was such a great opportunity to impress upon her that we totally understand patients’ fears and apprehensions.  She went onto say how embarrassed she was to talk about her teeth, they were in such a state of disrepair, broken down fillings, crooked and missing teeth.

I was able to reassure her that all of our patients looking for a smile makeover would have access to our treatment co -ordinater, who would assess their needs in our comfortable, modern consultation room.  Tea coffee, juice and even champagne  are at our disposal, all aimed at putting you at ease in a totally private environment.  Once the ’ smile analysis’  is collated, it is passed to the clinical lead, who then consults with the patient in his state of the art surgery.  He will take on  board your desires, concerns and budgets.  Time frames are  then discussed and we agree a way forward. Patients are assured of personal contact with the treatment coordinator for  those ‘forgot to ask’ questions at any time. Our consultations  for smile makeovers are complimentary.  This is just a small part of our patient journey.
